The Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF) today accused Higher Education Minister, SB Dissanayake of contempt of court for announcing that the leadership training program will go ahead as scheduled even after yesterday’s Supreme Court decision.
A release from the IUSF states that the petition was filed by the Students’ Movement for Human Rights, challenging the training programme while the Supreme Court had suggested that the respondents, the UGC, Education Ministry and Minister Dissanayake postpone the programme by one week.
However, less than an hour after the direction was given, the Higher Education Minister has issued a statement saying that the programme will go ahead as scheduled. The statement by the Minister was disrespectful of the court’s authority, accused the Students’ Federation.
Albeit Minister SB Dissanayake considers this as an ordinary act, as he was found guilty of contempt of court once before, the public who respect the country’s laws should condemn this, the statement signed by IUSF Convener Sanjeewa Bandara detailed.
