A Sri Lankan woman was arrested reportedly with a fake passport at the airport here on Tuesday. According to police, Vasanthi (42) was apprehended by immigration officials when she attempted to board a morning flight to Lanka using an Indian passport.

The woman had earlier flown to Lanka twice using the same passport. Vasanthi and her husband Sriramalu, an Indian national whom she met in the Gulf, settled in Krishnagiri 20 years back. The couple then acquired an Indian passport through an agent in 1994 and later renewed it in 2004. A police official said, “The woman said that her wedding was registered here.

However, we are not sure if she has a marriage certificate.”  The immigration officials handed over the woman to the airport police for further investigations.  (ExpressNewsService)
