Refresh Colombo: Refreshing “technovation” in Sri Lanka

Refresh Colombo, as described on their website, is a community of web and technology enthusiasts/professionals who come together on a monthly basis to share ideas and meet like minded individuals. The events are open to the public and guests are encouraged to bring more people along who would be interested even if it happens to be the oldest member of your family.

That said there is still the question, what is Refresh Colombo? What is the purpose behind Refresh Colombo? The whole idea behind Refresh Colombo is that while there have always been plenty of tech savvy individuals consisting of programmers, bloggers, designers and gadget nuts there has never really been a proper informal tech community in Sri Lanka. Refresh Colombo set out on a mission to bring together all these people into one location to share ideas and to form a bonding because the people behind it understand that in order to foster innovation in technology, or “technovation”, there is no better way than to put like minded people together in a room and get them talking.

The community meets up on the last Thursday of each month at the Royal College skills centre at 5:30 in the evening. The entire operation is free and not for profit and speakers volunteer or are invited to give presentations on their knowledge areas. This is a fantastic opportunity for tech interested people to meet up and create more opportunities out of it. Programmers and designers can forge development relationships while business oriented people can find the skills needed to build up on possibly the next big thing in Sri Lanka. Individuals interested in finding the next big thing to invest in might also find what they are looking for here. The community is vibrant and is growing fast and it’s a good idea to come along and join asap.

The Refresh Colombo May meet up will be happening today at the Royal College skills centre from 5:30 PM. If you are unfortunately unable to make it, fear not, the event will be live streamed. Follow @RefreshColombo on Twitter for more updates on that.

The talks that will be happening are

Unleash the Entrepreneur Within by Nishantha Gunasekara

Useful Web Apps by Indulekha Nanayakkara

I will be live blogging the event so tune back in at 5:15 PM to catch up with all the updates.
