Agri Ministry to sue company selling expired big onion seeds

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to take legal action against a company for releasing expired big onion seeds to the market.


The company in question had distributed the out of date seeds, in import grade packaging, amongst farmers, it had been revealed at the District Agricultural Committee of Matale.


It is reported that several of these farmers had suffered losses in hundreds of thousands of rupees as a result of this.


Information in this regard has been uncovered by the Mahailluppallama Agriculture Research Centre while legal action will be taken under the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
