Nearly 17,000 affected by adverse weather conditions

The Disaster Management Center reports that 16,956 persons have been affected so far due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the country. The highest numbers of people displaced are reported from the Colombo District, Assistant Director of the DMC Pradeep Kodippili said.


The death toll from floods and similar weather related disaster situations has risen to 8, he also added.
 

Meanwhile the Nuwara-Eliya District Disaster Management Center has advised motorists traveling to the hill country to remain cautious while driving, as several earth-slips had been reported yesterday along the Colombo-Hatton main road.


Western Province, Sabaragamuwa Province and Central Province could experience heavy rain in the course of today (May 29), the Department of Meteorology informs.
