JVP condemn attack on ‘peaceful’ protest

May 30, 2011   05:33 pm

We condemn the attack on workers who were standing up for their rights in a democratic and peaceful manner, the JVP says. The party accused the government of using the police to assault and fire at workers, who they say ‘were engaged in a peaceful protest at the Katunayake FTZ’.

The government did not stop from there. It used the service of security forces to break into factories in the FTZ and forcefully take away the workers inside them, a release issued by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna claimed.

The party further demanded the government to immediately end the suppression launched against workers in the Free Trade Zone (FTZ).
