Two employees belonging to the Ratmalana Depot of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) have been taken into custody over the assault of a private bus employee.

SLTB Chairman, M.D. Bandusena stated that following the arrest he trusted that the private bus employees operating from Panadura will end their strike which began today (June 2). The strike was called in protest of an incident in which a private bus operator was assaulted by an SLTB employee.

Earlier today, the Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) announced that they would continue their strike until the assailants had been taken into custody. Despite the arrests President of the PBOA, Gemunu Wijeratne said that the strike will continue as the two arrested persons were only two employees of the security unit at the Ratmalana depot and none of the assailants had been taken into custody yet.

Apart from the Panadura busses, the Aluthgama-Colombo, Kalutara-Colombo, Mathugama-Colombo and the Moratuwa-Colombo busses have also halted operations in protest of this incident.
