OIC and 9 others arrested for treasure hunting

Nine persons including two children who had allegedly attempted to carry out a treasure hunt at the Kalapura Galkanda Viharaya in Sigiriya have been arrested and handed over to the police by villagers.

 

The Sigiriya Police stated that the party comprised of a police OIC, his wife and two children and a monk. The arrested are reported to be residents of Digana, Mirigama, Kurunagala and Hatharas Kotuwa.

 

The Police further stated that among the items taken into police custody were video tapes of a number of locations within the Viharaya where treasure is said to be hidden and images of ancient rocks.

 

However the Police stated that the OIC, his family and the monk were released after questioning.
