75,000 imported coconuts destroyed - Johnston

Around 75,000 coconuts that were imported from Kerala during the festive season were destroyed on arrival at the harbour as they were unfit for consumption, Minister of Internal Trade Johnston Fernando said in Parliament today (June 9).

 

Answering a question put forward by JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Minister Fernando conceded this point adding that 490 metric tons of chicken and close to ten million eggs were also imported during this time.
