Douglas, Menon discuss issues of Lankan Tamils

A committee of parliamentary representatives should be appointed to address the issues of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, EPDP Secretary General Douglas Devananda had proposed during a phone conversation with India’s National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon.
A release issued by the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) states that Minister Douglas Devananda had contacted the National Security Advisor in order to discuss the various difficulties faced by the Tamil people and solutions to those issues.
Shiv Shankar Menon arrived in the country yesterday (June 10) on an official visit along with Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar to hold broad-ranging discussions with Lankan officials on outstanding issues, including the progress in rehabilitation of Tamils in the Northern Province.
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda had also said that he intends to present this proposal to President Mahinda Rajapakse during discussion to be held with the EPDP on a future date.
