Govt. working behind national security label - Attanayake

The government is burdening and pressurizing the people under the label of national security, UNP Secretary General Tissa Attanayake stated today (June 21) at a press briefing in Colombo.

He said that the government had appointed various presidential committees to look into certain matters with no results claiming that the presidential committee that was supposed to submit a report on the protest at the Free Trade Zone in Katunayaka within five days of the incident had failed to do so. He also said that the committee appointed to look into the weapons procurement in 2008 had mysteriously gone quiet.

MP Attanayake claimed that when questioned in parliament about this committee, Minsiter Dinesh Gunawardena had stated that due to national security reasons nothing can be revealed about the committee.

Attanayake added that military camps were still being set up rapidly in the North and South of the country.
