Right to Information bill defeated at Parliament

The Right to Information bill was defeated with a majority of 63 votes in Parliament a short while ago with 34 voting for and 97 voting against it. UNP co-deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya presented the bill at Parliament today which was opposed by the government from the outset.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa said that 93 Members of Parliament had been absent today (June 21).
