An employee of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board was ordered to be taken into protective custody by the Colombo Magistrates Court after being arrested on bribery charges.

The suspect was arrested after allegedly asking a businessman in Maradana for a Rs.70,000 bribe to fraudulently reduce a water bill worth Rs. 5 lakhs. The Fraud Investigation Bureau (FIB) made the arrest during the transaction after receiving the information from the businessman himself.

The suspect was ordered to be kept in remand until July 7.
