Bus operators disapprove of potential bus strike

June 25, 2011   04:23 pm

Despite the Private Bus Owners Association threatening to go on strike over an insufficient bus fare hike, three other bus operators’ associations have stated that they will not allow such action to be taken and will not support any such protest.

Following the bus fare hike of 7.6% this week, President of the Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijeratne stated that a fare increase of 15% was needed while the previous minimum bus fare of Rs.6 should be increased to Rs.8.

However, three other associations expressed their disapproval of Wijeratne’s threat to go on strike while stating that they will not extend their support to any such move.
