No cabinet document was submitted by the Ministry of Petroleum Industries regarding the purchasing of the 20,000 tons of petrol which has sparked an outburst, the Ministry states.
Fuel purchases are decided by a committee appointed by the cabinet and the petrol shipment in question was purchased as decided by the said committee, the Petroleum Ministry points out.
There is no connection between the cabinet papers submitted by the Petroleum Industries Ministry in March and April and the concerning purchase of petrol, as the cabinet papers were in regard to the purchase of diesel, a release issued by the Ministry today stated.
Therefore JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake is questioning without knowing the actual facts, the Petroleum Ministry release claims regarding the MP query yesterday (July 02) as to ‘why the shipment of petrol had not been imported according to the cabinet papers approved in March.’
