Alastair Cook’s second ODI century couldn’t prevent Sri Lanka taking a 2-1 series lead over England with a six-wicket win at Lord’s.
Skipper Cook’s 119 - a one-day best for the opener - was the mainstay of England’s total of 246-7, a below-par effort after they had won the toss and opted to bat first.
Their score was soon put into context when Mahela Jayawardene, fresh off a match-winning century at Headingley on Friday, put the tourists on their way with 79 at the top of the order.
Dinesh Chandimal then saw the Sri Lankans over the line, eventually, hitting an unbeaten 105 to see his side home with 10 balls to spare.
