Intermittent power outages due to depleting water levels - CEB

July 5, 2011   12:00 pm

Although the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) claimed that no steps had been taken to restrict the supply of electricity to any areas of the country, it conceded that the intermittent power outages that have occurred were due to the low water levels in the reservoirs.

The CEB claimed that apart from the depleting water levels in the catchment areas, technical glitches in the Thermal power stations were also causes for power outages.

The CEB has also requested the public to use electricity sparingly especially between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. by switching off any unnecessary electrical appliances.
