Pakistan Supreme Court’s registry branch in Lahore on Monday granted bail to Malik Ishaq, one of the founders of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and a key suspect in attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009.
Ishaq was ordered to submit two surety bonds of Rs500,000 each; however, he will still be in jail due to seven other terrorist charges against him.
Ishaq’s plea said that he was under arrest in Sahiwal jail during the time of the attack and therefore, it was impossible that he was behind the attack.
The challan issued against Ishaq by the police had stated that he was the mastermind behind the attack, The Express Tribune reports.
