Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena says he does not have sufficient authority in handling human resource management in the health sector. That truth has to be revealed to the country by me, as Minister, he expressed.

Speaking during an event at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital the Minister stated that there are around 750 hospitals, including rural hospitals and that the responsibility of human resource management in these hospitals is shared between several establishments.

As a result of this several hospitals have excess workers while others lack employees, he pointed out “There are an excess number of doctors in the Colombo General Hospital and the Gampaha Hospital and an excess amount of nursing staff at the Kegalle Teaching Hospital.”
