Rat-fever claims 56 lives so far this year

The Health Ministry reported that 56 people had died of leptospirosis, more commonly known as rat-fever, within the year so far while 4464 people were infected with the disease.

 

The most deaths were recorded in the Gampaha District with 11 persons succumbing to the disease while the Kurunegala District recorded the most number of infected persons with a total of 1346 confirmed cases along with nine deaths.

 

Another four deaths each were recorded in the Hambantota and Kalutara Districts.
