The government has to already pay a sum of Rs. 18 billion for the hedging deals whereas the amount will rise to Rs. 50 billion if Citi Bank and Deutsche Bank take the issue to courts, the UNP claimed.
Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo today (July 22) UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera stated that a further US $2 million has been set apart by the government for consultation fees.
He stated that due to the government’s shortsighted decisions the public is becoming indebted adding that a protest will be organized in view of this situation on August 6 at Panduwasnuwara in Hettipola.
