The internal conflicts within the UNP greatly affected the party’s defeat at the local government elections, UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera stated.
Due the conflicts between the various factions within the party, the UNP was unable to formulate a clear objective to take to the people during the election which resulted in their defeat, the MP stated.
Speaking at a press conference held today (July 27) in Colombo, MP Samaraweera added that those opposing the party leadership should maintain that it is an internal affair and should not openly criticize the leadership.
