Gnanaprabha Thero nominated as Chairman

UPFA has nominated Ven. Wevalduwe Gnanaprabha Thero as the Chairman of the Embilipitiya Urban Council, UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha confirmed.
This will be the first time a Buddhist monk would become the Chairman of an LG body after winning highest number of preference votes in the polls.
The Buddhist monk, from the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) won the highest number of preference votes in the election of Embilipitiya Urban Council held on July 23.
The JHU is a partner in the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) coalition.
Meanwhile UPFA Candidate G. H. Buddhadasa, who topped the preferential votes list with 29,719 votes, is to be the first mayor of the newly established Kaduwela Municipal Council.
