One of Canada’s “most wanted” suspected war criminals is sitting in a Miami jail. Illandaridevuge Kulatunga, a Sri Lankan boxer who had been in Canada illegally since 1994, has been arrested by American authorities and is awaiting deportation in Miami.
It’s believed he entered the United States illegally and when the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) sent the U.S. its “most wanted” list of 30 suspected war criminals recently, the Americans replied that they already had Kulatunga in custody.
The U.S. is planning to deport him to Sri Lanka and it¹s unlikely he’ll be returned to Canada to be dealt with here.
“The whole point is to remove these people from Canada,” said Mike Patton, a spokesman for Public Safety Minister Vic Toews. “Even if they’ve gone home, we want to know and we will release the information, just so we can tell people to stop looking for them.” Cnews Canada reports.
