The Court of Appeals today granted permission for the petition, seeking an investigation into Arsenic-containing pesticides and an order prohibiting them, to be heard from August 24. The petition had been filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice.
Court issued notice on several institutions including the Central Environmental Authority, Consumer Affairs Authority and also the Registration of Pesticides.
The petitioning party cited that using pesticides which contain arsenic is harmful to health as well as to the environment, in many aspects, and therefore requested that a formal investigation be conducted in order to identify them.
The petitioners also requested court to issue an order seeking the preparation of a proper guide on the correct use of pesticides by the government.
