The Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka informs that the danger of womb neck cancer known as the Cervical Cancer is very high among the Sri Lankan women, and is on the increase. The Ministry says that between 800 and 900 patients of this category are reported annually, and majority of them are in the age group of 30-65.
Studies have revealed that on an average 500 women die from this cancer annually and 1,000 women get affected by this problem. This is the second highest type of cancer that affects the women. It is a non epidemic disease, and is communicated through sexual activities. Doctors say that early detection could cure it and it can be identified by a “pap test”.
The Ministry of Health informs that all women in the age group of 35-65 should take a Pap Test once in 5 years. This Test can be made free of charge from the Health Offices. The National Cancer Prevention Programme informs that early identification of the disease could help to cure it permanently, the Govt. Information Department said today.
