Govt. to spend Rs.250mil on meals for school children

The government will spend around Rs.250 million each month on providing an afternoon meal for government school children after it was reported that approximately 17% of school children in 2010 were malnourished.

Deputy Minister of Education Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa stated this in parliament today (August 11) while adding that meals will be provided for 1,088,890 students in 7779 government schools around the country.
