Sri Lankan pilgrims and tourists visiting Tamil Nadu should register at the police station closest to their place of stay, the Tamil Nadu Police said today.
Sri Lankan visitors to the state of Tamil Nadu need to inform the relevant police station of their place of lodging and their identity, a spokesman to the Police Control Room in Tamil Nadu said.
Speaking to Ada Derana he stated that this measure had been taken with the aim of ensuring the safety of Sri Lankan pilgrims to Tamil Nadu.
The move comes in the wake of recent attacks on Sri Lankan tourists by activists belonging to a pro-LTTE outfit.
It had been reported previously that Chennai city police had instructed hotels in the city not to accommodate pilgrims from Sri Lanka following the two attacks.
However the Chennai Police claimed they only instructed hotel and lodge owners in the city to inform nearby police stations regarding visitors who stay in their premises.
