A protest was staged by several media organizations and members of Parliament in front of the Jaffna central bus stand today (August 16) against the attack on the Uthayan News Editor G. Kuganathan.

Uthayan News Editor, G. Kuganathan, was assaulted by an unidentified group and hospitalized on July 29. He had been clubbed on the back of the head with a steel pole while returning home from work.

The protestors demanded that attacks on the media should be stopped immediately and that the voice of the media should not be stifled in any way.

Police arrested the main suspect in the assault yesterday (August 15).
