About 200 MDMK cadres were today taken
into custody for staging a protest demanding “expulsion” of some Sri Lankan
officials, reportedly being trained at the Integral Coach Factory here, police
said.
“We have received information that 12 Sri Lankan officials are to be trained
from today at ICF for two weeks. We have a copy of that order. We don’t want
the Sri Lankan officials to get trained here,” Jeevan, a party worker who
protested in front of the ICF General Manager’s Office, said.
He said as per the order, training for the officials was supposed to commence
from 1.30 pm today.
Two months ago, there were similar protests in front of Defence Services Staff
College at Wellington in Tamil Nadu’s Udhagamandalam district against training
of Sri Lankan armed forces personnel who reportedly arrived there. (PTI)
