Proposals to increase cement prices rejected - Johnston

A request made to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) by three separate companies to increase the maximum retail price of cement was rejected, Internal Trade Minister, Johnston Fernando said.
He stated that there was no space for organizations to burden the consumers and undermine the development of the country.
The Minister also stated that he will not allow these companies to create and artificial shortage of cement and take control of the market while stating that the maximum retail price of a 50kg bag of cement will remain at Rs.750.
