A petition filed at the Chavakachcheri Magistrate’s Court alleges that students of schools in southern Jaffna are frequently being sexually abused by their teachers and that parents in fear don’t report the incidents to authorities.

The petition filed by several children’s rights organization together with the Chavakachcheri GA states that parents of such abuse victims do not report these incidents to the police in fear of embarrassment and that it may ruin the future of the child.

No matter how many awareness programs are conducted by organization, parents still refuse to come forward and lodge complaints regarding such incidents, the petition points out.

It also added that abusive teachers make use of this situation to abuse more and more innocent children as they have no fear of being caught. Certain students are even too afraid to attend school in fear of being sexually molested, rights organizations stressed.

Chavakachcheri Magistrate Manickavasagar Ganesharasa then instructed the police to look into the allegations and to apprehend such teachers if found guilty.
