Mihinthalaya Chief Incumbent arrested

Chief Incumbent of Mihinthalaya Rajamaha Viharaya, charged with sexual abuse of a minor, has been arrested at the Bandaranayake International Airport on an arrest warrant.
Venerable Namalwewa Rathanasara Thero had been arrested upon arrival in the country from Singapore today (August 20) morning and is currently being held by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The monk had been ordered arrested and produced in court by Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Darshika Wimalasiri on August 12.
Rathanasara Thero is accused of repeatedly sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl, who is currently under probation and has been subject to a medical examination.
The Thero was suspected to have fled the Mihinthalaya area prior to the issuing of the arrest warrant.
