The Patriotic National Movement (PNM) accuses the government of violating the ‘Mathata Thitha’ policy by irresponsibly issuing liquor licenses for bars in certain areas.
A similar issue has been prevailing for several years in Vidyala Junction, Hokandara while legal action had to be taken on several occasions against opening a bar in the area, Registrar of the National Sangha Council, Dr. Maduru Oye Dammissara Thero said.
Certain individuals are preparing to open a bar in the same location this year as well, the Thero informed.
Meanwhile the Patriotic National Movement in statement issued says that all Dhaama Schools in the country will boycott the government’s violation of the ‘Mathata Thitha’ policy.
Already several Dhamma Schools in the Kalutara area have been temporarily closed in protest to liquor shops being opened in close proximity to two schools and a Buddhist temple, it said.
