Geek week Part 1: Refresh Colombo

The month of August 2011 is in its final stages and this week is an exciting one for the tech and social media interested community of Sri Lanka. With two major events happening in the same week the term ‘geek week’ has been coined which may hopefully in the future become an annual or even a monthly occurrence. Having said that this will be a three part post focusing on the events of the week and why you should be there to be part of each one’s unique experience.

The first event of the week is scheduled to happen this Thursday which is the Refresh Colombo August edition. Refresh Colombo is Sri Lanka’s only tech meetup where tech interested individuals meet up to discuss and share ideas while getting to know each other in order to foster a community effect which will in turn lead to progress and innovation in the tech sphere.

The lineup for this week’s Refresh Colombo is as follows.

·        Disrupting Higher Education: Breaking down information barriers with technology and social sharing
by
J. Charitha Ratwatta Jr. (Member, Board of Directors – SL2College / Co-Founder and Managing Director – Rural Returns)

·        Cloud Computing – Facts vs. Myths
by
WSO2

·        Generating and Selling a Tech Business Idea
by
Adnan Issadeen (Tech Startup Junkie)
Discover how to develop a mindset geared towards using tech to create business opportunities and how to pitch it so it sells

Since I will be speaking at this time’s edition there probably will not be a live blog but instead there will be a full recap of it the following Monday.

The ‘geek week’ 2011 will see Refresh Colombo taking place this Thursday and the Tweetup SL 2 (to be covered in the second part of this series) taking place this Saturday. Refresh Colombo will happen at the Royal College skills centre from 5 15 PM and Tweetup SL 2 will happen on Saturday from 5 PM at the Dialog future centre. With 369 registrations so far this event will be a fantastic chance to meet a lot of new people. Confirm your presence via www.tweetupsl.org
