A host of nomination papers rejected

The nomination papers of a host of political parties and independent groups were rejected ahead of the local government elections for the remaining 23 local bodies scheduled to be held on October 8, election authorities stated.
Eight political parties and six independent groups had put forward their nominations for the Kandy Municipal Council out of which the nominations of the Janasetha Front and an independent group were rejected.
The Gangawatakoralaya Pradeshiya Sabha saw nominations from eight political parties and three independent groups of which the nomination papers of the Ruhuna People’s Party were rejected.
One independent group out of six political parties and two independent groups that put forward their nominations for the Kundasale Pradeshiya Sabha were rejected while one independent group was rejected for the Matale Municipal Council as well.
