Four out of five demands will be met - Grero

August 30, 2011   02:07 pm

UNP MP Mohan Lal Grero stated that four of his five demands will be met by the party leadership following a discussion with Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe today (August 30).

Among the demands met, the Deputy Mayor of the Ratmalana Municipal Council will receive greater powers and responsibilities and the post will also be given to the candidate with the most number of votes.

Furthermore, municipal resources will be divided according to the population while the population will be considered when appointing municipal council officials as well.

Last week, Grero handed a letter to the party leadership requesting that the Dehiwala/Mount Lavinia Mayoral candidate be kept open, however, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake had informed him that the letter was not given to the nominations board through a fault of his own and that the demand was not discussed therefore.

MP Grero stated that he will not resign from his post as the Ratmalana Organizer immediately and will decide upon it following the elections.
