Invisible political hand behind petroleum crisis?

Suspicion rises that the invisible hand of a powerful political force may be behind the petroleum crisis which arose by the importing of substandard petrol, says the United National Party.
Party media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka told members of the press today (September 5) that the reason for such a “rational suspicion” was the failure of the Petroleum Industries Minister to implement the recommendations of the committee appointed to probe the issue.
The recommendation of the committee had been to claim the losses, which were estimated at around Rs.410 million, from official responsible or the company that supplied the petrol, he mentioned.
“So far no course of action has been taken to claim that sum.” he accused.
The Parliamentarian also reminded that Minister Susil Premajayantha had promised to take severe action against those responsible for the crisis, regardless of their political rank.
