The former Deputy Mayor of the Lindhula Municipal Council in Thalawakele, was holding his post unlawfully according to the new Mayor, Ashoka Sepala.

He stated that the gazette paper issued by the Elections Commissioner for the post of the Deputy Mayor had a lady’s name on it. Therefore he revealed that the former Deputy Mayor had held his position illegally.

This came to light when the said Deputy Mayor had to present the needed certification to obtain a vehicle permit provided for former Municipal officials, the current Mayor told Ada Derana.

The said Deputy Mayor had held the post since August 28, 2006 while no other officials were able to uncover this situation during the time he held the post.
