11 member Lankan team to travel to Pakistan

On the request of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, government of Sri Lanka has sent a 11-member team comprising on epidemiologists and public health experts for technical assistance and guidance to the local experts which will reach Lahore on Wednesday, 14 September.
It was disclosed by Secretary Health Punjab Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan during daily media briefing regarding dengue fever situation at KEMU committee room, today.
Commissioner Lahore Jawad Rafique Malik, Members Provincial Assembly Kh. Imran Nazir, Kh. Salman Rafique, VC KEMU Prof. Asad Aslam Khan, DG Health Punjab Dr. Aslam Chaudhry, Prof. Faisal Masood SIMS, Prof. Basharat KEMU, MS Mayo Hospital Dr. Zahid Pervaiz and other officers were also present.
Secretary Health told that the administrations of all government hospitals in Lahore have been directed to expand the existing dengue isolation wards to meet any future requirement.
He informed that a meeting was held with the administration of private medical colleges and they agreed to join hands with the government against dengue. He further said that medical students of these colleges would actively participate in community social work at town level and these students will pay door to door visits to promote awareness regarding dengue fever.
Secretary Health further said that a system has been evolved to transport the attendant and the donor to institute of blood transfusion for obtaining platelets.
He disclosed that the concerned hospital will provide transport to these persons to the institution and way back.
He further said that one hundred medicated mosquito nets have been provided to each hospital for dengue patients.
Jehanzeb Khan disclosed that the total number of dengue patients has reached 4327 whereas the number of dengue patients in Lahore is 3925 and in the last 24 hours, 499 fresh cases have been reported out of which 389 were admitted in different hospitals.
Secretary Health said that the last 24 hours, no death due to dengue fever has been confirmed during the last 24 hours.While briefing the media-men, Kh. Salman Rafique and Kh. Imran Nazir said that fumigation and anti-mosquito spray is being carried out at union council level in double shifts.
They said that the members of town response committees were regularly visiting the hospitals to review the arrangements. (FP)
