The United National Party has decided to remove former UNP Parliamentarian Mohamed Maharoof from the party’s Working Committee, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said.

He stated that the decision was made due to Mr. Maharoof obtaining membership in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and opting to contest the upcoming election under the UPFA.

Mohammad Maharoof, UNP Colombo Central organizer, had obtained his SLFP membership from President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on August 24 and is to contest for the Colombo Municipal Council in the upcoming Local Government election.
