Around one thousand more rehabilitated Tamil Tiger rebels will be reintegrated into society at the end of September, the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms said. According to its Secretary A. Dissanayake a request has already been made from the Defence Ministry seeking authorization for the release.

He stated that while approximately 2000 LTTE combatants, who surrendered to security forces, are currently being rehabilitated, several of them are expected to be released and reintegrated into society.

The others are those who had arrived for rehabilitated as ordered by court, therefore they will continue their rehabilitation programme for another year, Dissanayake pointed out.
