A Lankan visa applicant was arrested today (Sep. 19) for fraud after she had reportedly submitted a false education certificate along with her UK student visa application.
The UK Border Agency referred the case to the Sri Lankan police, the British High Commission said in a statement released today.
The applicant had claimed that she paid an agent to provide her with the false document.
“Please do not submit false documents or listen to people who tell you to do so. We check documents thoroughly and, whenever we discover deception, we do not hesitate to take robust action against applicants and agents who supply false documents.” UK Border Agency’s Entry Clearance Manager, Claire Murray, said.
In addition to the police investigation, the applicant also faces a ban of 10 years on all travel to the UK.
“The UK Border Agency in Colombo has identified over 550 false documents submitted by Tier 4 student applicants so far this year.
All applicants who have provided a false document as part of their student visa application have had their visa application refused. They have also been banned from travelling to the UK for ten years.” the release further read.
