Municipal Councilor and Mayor’s secretary remanded

A Bandarawela Municipal Councilor and the Coordinating Secretary of the Mayor arrested on bribery charges have been ordered remanded in prison until October 6 after they were produced in court.

The suspects had reportedly demanded Rs.2 million from an individual to provide a shop from the Bandarawela town.

They had been arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegation of Bribery or Corruption yesterday (22) upon receiving a sum of Rs.800,000.

The commission is conducting further investigations regarding the suspects.
