SMS canvassing ends from Oct. 5

September 25, 2011   09:21 am

The Elections Secretariat informs that campaigning for the upcoming Local Government election through SMS (Short Message Service) is prohibited from midnight October 05. It stated that in previous elections candidates had used text messages for canvassing even after propaganda activities were prohibited 48 hours ahead of polling.

Meanwhile the Elections Secretariat has also directed its attention towards preventing election campaigning through electronic and print media during the time period when propaganda activities are prohibited.

Accordingly the Commissioner of Elections is scheduled to meet with heads of media institutions.
