No visa fee for 48-hour visitors

There will be no visa fee for tourists visiting Sri Lanka for only for a period of 48-hours, according to President Rajapaksa who added that chidren will be exempted from any entry fee.


The new visa process in January 2012 will see a US$10 visa fee for visitors from SAARC nations and a fee of $20 for visitors from all other nations.


President Rajapaksa proposed the removal of the Value Added Tax(VAT) on buses imported for Tourism. He added that duties on vehicles imported for airport taxi services will be halved.


President stated that airport taxi owners could use the facility to replace their old vehicles.
