Navanethem Pillay, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in her opening statement at the 19th UNHRC session, spoke about human rights violations in the Syrian context but failed to mention anything about Sri Lanka.
She stated that the UNHRC had not developed a mechanism to follow up on member states on recommendations given by the council and would have to do so in the future to live up to its purpose.
She also stated that the council had managed to address certain issues in the past but not all.
