Following his address to the 19th United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session, Plantation Minister and President’s Special Human Rights Envoy Mahinda Samarasinghe stated that he had received positive responses regarding Sri Lanka’s future plan.
Speaking to Ada Derana from Geneva Minister Samarasinghe said that many countries had praised Sri Lanka’s plan for the future after he addressed the council last evening (February 27).
He stated that most people have realized that it was meaningless to bring a proposal to the Council regarding the implementation of the recommendations made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
However, the Minister added that frequent discussions will be held in the future so that international authorities can stay informed about Sri Lanka’s progress.
Member states will engage in an open debate on March 1 at which the Minister stated that Sri Lanka’s position and future plan will be further explained and any questions that the member states have would be answered.
