Lecturers of the Medical Faculty of the University of Colombo are to engage in a token strike tomorrow (27), as a show of support to the strike action by the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA).
All lecturers of the Colombo University Faculty of Medicine will withdraw from their duties from tomorrow, FUTA Secretary Dr. Terrance Madujith said.
Meanwhile he stated that the government has still not come forward with a final solution to their problems and vowed to continue their two-month long strike until their grievances are met.
The federation is engaged in a strike action since July 4 demanding a salary increase for the lecturers and a 6% of GDP allocation for the education sector.
The government on Tuesday closed down all universities except the medical faculties in the country until further notice due to the strike by the academics.
