Sri Lanka eyes UAE investments

Sri Lanka offers numerous investments opportunities to foreign investors as the country is open for investment in manufacturing, trading, tourism and services sectors, said Rishad Bathiudeen, Minister of Industry and Commerce.

He said it is very imperative for Sri Lanka also to attract FDI into the country and take advantage of Sri Lanka’s free trade agreements (FTAs) with India and Pakistan to reach more than 1 billion markets.

Bathiudeen was recently in Dubai to participate Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) 2013 which was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

The Sri Lankan minister also met his UAE counterpart Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri and held a detailed one to one mutual discussion and exchanged views on expanding Sri Lanka’s trade, investment and tourism relations with UAE.

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen extended an invitation to Al Mansouri to visit Sri Lanka at a mutual convenient time in the near future.

On sidelines of AIM, Bathiudeen also explored possibilities of meeting foreign investors and held discussion with individual potential investors including Damac Group, UAE-based property developers inviting them to Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Mission in Dubai organized and coordinated the programme and Abdul Raheem, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, accompanied with the Minister for AIM conference, discussion and the meetings. - Emirates 24/7
